To the one I call MOM

Here's to spending the second Mother's Day away from you

Here's to waking up in the night:
·         to feed me,
·         to nurse me when i'm sick,
·         wondering if I'm okay so far away
Here's to waking up early:
·         to prepare for the day,
·         to prepare me for school,
·         because you’re used to it already
Here’s to the meals
Here’s to the lessons you’ve taught me
Here’s to the quarrels
Here’s to the nagging
Here’s to the tears and prayers
Here’s to you mum

Once in a while I watch this video and think back to a time when I had you to remind me of all this

Although I’ve been pretty much an independent person, it still is nice to have someone to wake you up in the morning, instead of having to get up to the alarm clock. It’s nice to already have the water boiled when you go for breakfast. It’s nice to have meals ready-to-eat after a long day at school. It’s nice to have someone be proud about. “My mum’s the best cook/baker in the world”. Through trial and error, I still cannot get the same taste as your dishes and baked goods have. (btw you still need to learn char boh chor’s ang mor tau ewe and chio hwa recipes!! and maybe if there is inchkabin??)

I recently found a song that kinda says what I want to say.

The lyrics are written by a man, but still I can relate to most, if not all, of what he says. I hope josh would one day be able to sing this song to you
They say a man loves his woman the way he loves his momma
It’s true.
So I wrote this song to thank you for teaching me to love
her like I do.
I know you haven’t seen me lately
And this hotel room ain’t quite like bein’ home (No place like home)
I know you pray for me daily
So the Lord has never left me all alone.
Honestly, I don’t know how ya do it.
You are the bomb dot com
When people ask “Is that Superwoman?”
I just reply and say, “No, that’s my Mom.”

chorus:
I just wanna tell you
While we’re here together.
Thank you for raising me
When friendships have faded.
And life gets complicated.
Still got my family.
Oh Momma, thank you for loving me.

See my mom’s a beautiful woman
I swear she only looks like 32
And she says her boys are good-lookin’
And there’s nothin’ like her home cookin’
Mmmmmm..It’s true.
Honestly I don’t know how ya do it.
You are the bomb dot com
And if they ask, “Is that Superwoman?”
I just reply and say, “No, that’s my Mom.”

chorus

Though I might not always see when you pray for me (Each day for me)
I know that God is on our side.
You support me and believe in me, you’re a superhero to our family.
To the rescue put on your cape and fly.

chorus

I don’t know what else to say, but I LOVE YOU.

Let's Face It

recently, after changing the user interface of my facebook (yeah, pretty late compared to others - i thank God for that!), it was giving me a lot of problems, like slow log in, problems with loading anything at all, and even slow log out! it proved to be a problem, but also a blessing in disguise. problem because i had to communicate important messages across different areas with different people; blessing because i had a lot of work to do and the hassle of long waiting time deterred me from constantly checking facebook.

Technology is taking up pretty much of our lives at the moment. please tell me an instance when you do not use technology. as much as it has it's benefits, it proves to be detrimental to our very lives as well.

social media (who couldn't have guessed where i was going??) is the biggest culprit of all. i will not deny that it definitely has brought many benefits on many levels. however, it has been a hindrance as well.

pros and cons of social media:
1. it connects people
2. you share life with others
3. it fills up your time
4. you get to be involved on a more than superficial level; i.e., with emotions

if you were trying to figure out which are which, stop already. they all are both.

1. it connects people
it has definitely allowed me to connect with my friends from everywhere, from different places, across the globe much easier. however, it is a very superficial connection. you don't know who are your real friends on facebook, or whether what someone tweeted was really what they said. sure social media has created a world without borders, but that just gives an excuse for not putting any effort into the relationship to meet up face to face.
social media is a paradox: it brings people together, yet pulls people apart

2. you share life with others
hey look, someone just got a picture with the local celebrity i've always wanted to meet. how do i know? just by looking at that person's instagram.
it's exciting that you're able to share memories with those who are not there with just a click of a (or a few) button(s). it can also be a dangerous thing. you might attract unwanted attention. and well, some things are just better not to be shared on social media.

3. it fills up your time
yay, never bored again during the long summer break! i will also get to know what my friends are up to. i'll take my time commenting on their statuses, like all their summer vacation photos and maybe send a message to that girl i haven't spoken to in a long while. well, it's the exact same thing that happens when you have work and you say you'll just take a peek at the notification that just came in. everyone knows that the "peek" is actually a 10- minute, at the very least, check-up on who just did what. it takes up time till more often than not, it drives us crazy not being able to complete our work on time.

4. you get to be involved on a more than superficial level
just used up the last piece of tissue in the pack from watching that touching video posted on my friend's wall. must share it with the world. oh look! someone's just gotten married! let's convey our felicitations. you definitely get more involved, deeper than just the surface with people's lives. what you do not realise is that sometimes invokes unnecessary emotions. to this, i can allude to a personal testimony. ever since i got way much more involved in facebook, (by a lot i mean i knew who was usually online at what time of the day, on specific days of the week) my moods are generally more down. i also tend to have a greater tendency to feel jealous. especially when i see someone's post on facebook getting likes but mine is just.... there. i tend to start over-thinking some things as well, which has proved a liability for some time.

in short, i've decided that since facebook is being more detrimental than beneficial at the moment, i've decided to take a (very big) step back from using it. do not expect prompt replies to messages. on a side note, to those whom i've said that i have no time, i really do not. so please do not try to refute a fact which is about someone else in the first place.

i logged in today to facebook, as there were things that needed my attention. it seems to be working just fine now. but, it's not strong enough a pull to bring me back into being a watchman. my emotional needs and educational demands are much more important to look after than have an antenna and be like a news reporter to people.

let me remind you that this blog is meant to be my opinion expressed. comments are welcome but please do so constructively and respectfully.

Are You Ready???

A friend of mine recently shared this video on Facebook.

Here is my comment/reply to this video:

I must say that this video and it's content is pretty interesting....
I have long stopped watching these kind of things or listening to prophecies of end times because i know that all these will only put fear in our hearts of what's to come. All i know is that the things in the Bible will happen in God's timing, and whether exactly as said or figuratively speaking is not so much the concern. What i know for sure is that we must " keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come" (Matthew 24:42)

Moreso, i know that the gospel must reach all before the coming of the Lord for "...he is patient with [us],not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2Peter 3:9) of which many missionaries are trying to reach out to the previously unreachable tribes. With technology advancing faster than ever before, it wouldn't be long before every tribe and tongue has heard the gospel. I am sincerely looking forward to that day as it would mean that Jesus will come and redeem His people. (Matthew 24:14).

But for now, I know that the things we were warned about of the end times in the Bible is slowly coming to pass. There are yet a few things which have not come to pass yet, but they will in God's own timing. I just pray that we as believers will be aware that wickedness is continually increasing and that the love of MOST will grow cold. I hope that we will be able to stand firm to the end and be saved. (paraphrased from Matthew 24:12-13)

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
(Ephesians 6:10-18)

 Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)

Am I too afraid?

... to really be myself?

i actually really love to blog (and read blogs, for that matter) but i think i am just too afraid of what others think.

i kinda follow two blogs written by two different friends of mine. they are really great writers. i love how they express themselves. i really want to blog like them. but somehow, i cannot reach their standard.

maybe i'm just not cut out for this. or maybe i'm just to afraid to release my inner creativity???

It's Christmas yet again....

uhuh.... it sure is! the time of the year where you get presents for people besides their birthdays. don't mean to feel like the grinch who stole Christmas, but it seems more and more irrelevant to me as the years go by.

what i'm trying to get at is, i'm beginning to find celebrating Christmas unnecessary. let me get this straight. it's not that i've become anti-Christmas, all i'm saying that it's not necessary to get all hype up for it. before anyone starts knocking at my door looking for an argument, let me justify my statements. sure, it commemorates the birthday of Jesus. and as a Christian, i do think that it is important to remember that because Jesus came into the world, He would then be able to save us from all our sin. however, what i'm trying to get at is that, it's all becoming really fake nowadays. or maybe it has always been throughout history.

i mean, getting presents for people only during their birthdays and Christmas? why not bless them once in awhile? especially those who cannot repay you? would that not be even better? at least it is for me..

also, it seems that Christmas has become an excuse to be (extra) nice to the people around you, including your family. seriously?? aren't we supposed to be doing it everyday?? whatever happened to our caring society?

lastly, but the most important thing of all. only remember and honour Christ on that day? how about every day of our walk with Him and in everything we do? and sharing the gospel should not be done just on a "special day", but everyday of our lives.

Jesus is the reason for the season everyday of my life.

Blessed Christmas to all. and remember Him and live for Him everyday.

cheers.

Job's Tears

nope, not talking about that plant or herb or whatever that is. i'm talking about the guy in the Bible, who got everything from him yet he was patient enough to let God restore him to his wealth, and he still chose to bless God's name despite all that ensued.

to be honest, i've read the whole book of Job a number of times and this is the first time it actually dawned upon me the lessons i can learn from there. all this while i've been wondering why such a thing must be put in the Bible for us to read.

well, here's what Job taught me:

  1.   Life is always unfair – even Job, a righteous man got it bad.
  2. Friends are not always comfortingly helpful – Job’s friends could only hurl insults at him.
  3. Amidst suffering, bless the LORD. (Job 1:21)
  4. People do not always know the whole situation, yet they want to have a say in things and play God.
  5. If you don’t know anything but want to be of help, it’s sometimes best not to say anything. Instead, just be there for the person – Job’s 3 friends tried to console him, instead they only made things worse for him. [personally, I would prefer if Job’s 3 friends just kept silent as they had. But without their whining, I  wouldn’t be learning this lesson.
  6. It’s not always that the older ones are wise. Sometimes the younger ones are the ones filled with wisdom. Just like Elihu. What’s more, he waited politely for everyone else to speak first.
  7. When God speaks, especially out of a storm, you better listen.
  8. Like Job, we should humble ourselves before God as He is Ruler over all and knows every single thing.
  9. Patience is certainly virtue!

this are personal lessons which i learned. if you have any you would like to share with me, feel free to leave a comment :D
